Sauda JoAnne Jackson

Visual Artist – Dancer – Tedx speaker – Writer and small group facilitator.

In her work with small groups, she has used art as a way to break down barriers to communication and to provide tools for building self-esteem. She leads arts, dance and empowerment groups in her local community.

Ms. Jackson has developed an empowering ritual for all to use, The Universal Hug. Through the Universal Hug, participants are given an opportunity to slow down, breathe, ground, tap into their own power, focus on gratitude, release tension, to remember their heart’s desires, to remember to be compassionate with themselves and to emotionally reset. All are encouraged to use this tool often and to share it widely.

What people say about me

My favorite part of the class… It takes all that energy and just puts in right back in to me.

That ending is like a breath of fresh air @Sauda J. Jackson. Your words and the body movements the stretch out into the universe, the hug, the pat on the back, your words of affirmation are perfectly woven together into a beautiful, powerful warm blanket of love!! I am all about self love! Especially as women we take care of everyone else and I do that in my profession as well. I feel full to overflowing by the end of class. I too feel emotional and have my eyes well up with gratitude. I even forgot how much my knees hurt LOL! Thank you for such a special and precious gift.

First I’d like to say…. for me dance is emotional. Better said it is emotion in motion; mind, body and music moving all in synchrony. Right before we begin, my body and mind are usually tired, not only from the dance class but from life itself. My heart is pounding and I am mentally drained from challenging my body and pushing through that, Infamous, last 10 minutes of class. As we begin the cool down everything gets calm and all I can hear are the cords from the mandala playing and Sauda’s voice. My heart is still pounding and my vision seems to be in full picture. As sauda is guiding me I am able to reflect

I agree!!! I love it. When we’re in class (specially the big class) I think how we may al look different, white, yellow, black, women, mothers, sisters children…but we are all in that circle as one. We may all have different opinions or share different beliefs but at that moment we are all one. We are universal!! We are all there to embrace one another, to love and send out that love to everyone else in the world that needs it !!! Love this uniformity that bonds us. Love.

Even though I don’t want class to end, I look forward to this time. I feel so focused on myself yet so extremely connected to everyone in the room and those who are beyond the walls. Nia and I use it and can finally say the “me to you……” part correctly. The whole activity feels good and necessary. Feels like the vibration reaches far.

I Connect!! That’s what I do.. among other talents. Thanks for the acknowledgment @Diazina Mobley. I use the universal hug and pat on the back to refuel and thank myself. . . I do what I do out of passion and impact, not monetary or superficial reward, but appreciation from others go a long way to keep me ticking.

I really like it. It’s a reminder to stop and be still. It’s like taking a deep breath and exhaling. I usually imagine all of my worries slowly sliding down my body and falling off. Then I say positive affirmations in my head while you’re saying the same over everyone.

Nora

I love it because it bring me back to self – were so busy focusing on everyone else and other things we tend to neglect ourselves Self love

Latonya

I do remember !!! I loooooved it! I feels like how you feel when you come out of a spiritual space and you just got a good word. Or like when somebody’s big mama prays over you. It definitely made me feel a oneness with the other participants too. In fact, almost everyone that used to go to that class is still connected to this day. Aquila, Denene and Shelley still catch up with me. So I believe it was powerful.
